Approach to Care

COSMO Fit Lab, unique to Denver orthopaedic surgery clinics, is a dedicated exercise testing space using motion capture technology to optimize both injury prevention and injury recovery.  The Fit Lab Features a 3D functional movement assessment system, to identify risk of injury based on compensatory movement patterns and movement dysfunction.

This 3D functional movement screening technology gives high-level athletes and weekend warriors alike the insight necessary to avoid injuries to which they might otherwise be susceptible. COSMO physicians and trainers analyze the data, then communicate recommendations to the patient, as well as directly to a fitness coach in the event the patient is working with a trainer.  Of note, preventative testing is not covered by insurance.

Colorado Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics (COSMO) is founded on the belief that a treatment plan should be specific and customized to the needs of each patient.  Based on your condition, the COSMO team will expertly outline the appropriate treatment plan options, whether those be surgery, rehabilitation or a course of regenerative medical therapy.  The surgeons’ expertise in rehab and recovery make them uniquely qualified to identify when surgery does not need to be the first-line therapy.

Regenerative Medicine

COSMO utilizes Regenerative Medicine therapies in both the operative and non-operative settings. These therapies are used during surgery to optimize the surgical healing process and as an adjunct to physical therapy with those injuries being managed more conservatively. COSMO physicians offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) which uses the patient’s own blood to spark the body to begin healing injured tissue. Personalized Rehabilitation

COSMO recognizes that in some situations a non-invasive approach is the best first-line therapy.  In these cases, the COSMO physicians leverage data gathered from COSMO Fit Lab testing to design a personalized rehabilitation treatment plan to be discussed directly with the patient’s physical therapist.  The COSMO surgeons conduct regular check-ins with the therapist as the protocol is executed to ensure progress and identify the potential need for reassessment.

In the case that surgery is needed, individualized post-surgical rehabilitation programming is essential for optimal recovery.  The COSMO Fit Lab is integral to the development of a surgical rehabilitation plan.  Patients undergo testing throughout their recovery to guide their rehabilitation plan, track their progress and communicate to their rehab provider. COSMO encourages physical therapists, coaches, or trainers to attend assessments whenever possible, as these multi-disciplinary sessions help generate the most successful outcomes.
